Superseba was the first big project done at Wanako.
It was quite challenging since the company had
recently opened. The 3d team was really small, just a team of 3 people who had
less than 3 weeks to deliver the whole project.
We knew this was our opportunity to show that we can
be one of the best animation companies at Uruguay. We worked really hard, and
they project had an amazing impact due to it´s quality.
We want to share some production comments with
everyone.
Production Breakdown
Considering an extremely short time available for producing the spot, workflow needed to be smooth and efficient. This was a chalenge in terms of organization because steps in the pipeline were overlapped to save time.
The main character (superseba) was treated with special care for detail. After modeling the character, while it was being rigged, textures were hand painted and detail sculpted in Zbrush. Texture and normal maps were exported back to 3D Max for the final look of the character.
Animation was combined with motion capture files recorded specially for this project, this way we could save time and work on the enviroments of the different scenes. Post production effects were added before rendering the final takes, using viewport previews of the takes ant then replacing the files with final renderings in the editing software.
The complete spot was edited using this same process, using previews in the edition software and then replacing the files with the final takes.
Spending some time thinking a production plan before getting to work on the 3D files was key to successfully delivering the spot on time to the client.
Any comments, questions and/or suggestions are greatly welcome, we want to share
